The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm watch for the Island of Hawaii.
A tropical storm watch means tropical storm-force winds are possible somewhere within this area within the next 48 hours, due to Tropical Storm Hone, which is approaching the islands from the east.
Residents and visitors are advised to plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force and rain.
That includes securing objects to avoid damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes.
Many large tree limbs could be broken off with a few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs could be blown over.
Roads could become flooded or impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions could exist on bridges and other elevated roadways.
Residents and visitors are advised to follow the instructions of local officials and monitor weather forecasts. Be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
